Outsourcing is the process of hiring other people (skilled workers, professionals, consultants, etc.) to perform a specific task or number of tasks that are related to your business.
It is a time-honored practice that is still being used today. Outsourcing can mean a huge difference in your home-based business, especially if you know when to use it to your advantage.
When to Outsource:
Outsourcing is not for everyone. So before you decide to hire someone for the job, determine if your home-based business will benefit from it. Consider outsourcing if these factors are in play:
- There is a task involved that you don’t have the time, training or skills for. These tasks can include accounting and bookkeeping, secretarial or administrative or production-related.
- The tasks you need to complete are seasonal or temporary.
- The tasks are too time-consuming for you or will require the purchase of bulky and expensive equipment.
- You don’t have the time or the willingness to learn new computer programs or to operate new equipment.
- You don’t want to hire a permanent employee to do the job.
How to Outsource:
Find an outsourcing service that offers experience and reliability. If some aspects of the tasks you need to complete are confidential in nature, the firm or the individual should be able to keep it as such. Look for skills and specialization, preferably in a service which has better or more skills than you have.
Try to compute how much you’re spending on a particular task per hour. Look for an outsourcing service that offers less than that rate. Your goal is to save money by outsourcing, so you better find a service that will do just that.
As to the question whether you should hire a firm or an individual, that depends. Most experts recommend you work with a firm that has the experience and offers quality service. Hiring an individual can sometimes mean being at the mercy of that person. If he/she gets sick or swamped with other work, your tasks could suffer. A firm can offer you more guarantees. However, hiring an individual may be good for temporary or seasonal tasks. Again, that will depend on what you need to accomplish for your home-based business.

I think one of the factors to consider as well is the quality of the work delivered by the outsourced party. It is good to save money on labor costs, but there must be quality control.

Outsourcing is the rising trend of the 21st century — because labor cost is much cheaper in certain countries — and the internet has made it possible to never see your boss but keep on working for him/her.

I think the great thing about hiring an individual is you are able to cost cut big time. Individuals are more flexible with their service fees.

Outsourcing is the wave of the future. The office is no longer contained within four walls, and you can have a great relationship with your boss without ever seeing him or her. It has a lot of benefits — and one of them is the cost-effectiveness. If you know how to look and where to look outsourcing can have a great impact on your business.

That’s right, outsourcing frees up your time to do much more “effective” work for you to generate higher ROI.
But when you are starting out, you should not worry too much about outsourcing yet.
Starting out learning some of the stuffs your self might be slower paced, but can definitely build a knowledge that probably comes handy in the future…

The premium benefit of outsourcing is cost savings. But business owners that are considering to outsource must also look into the capabilities of the outsourcing company it chooses as working with an outsourcing company that doesn’t have a pool of skilled workers may result to poor services which could mean no savings at all.
What do I want to imply when I say poor service? When an outsourcing company was only able to accomplish half or worst one-thirds of the tasks on a given period versus doing the tasks in-house is a poor service. An outsourcing company should be able to equal or perform better when the tasks is done in-house to fulfill the cost savings benefit of outsourcing.
Do I make sense?

With the current economic crisis affecting even the wealthiest of nations, I think more and more would rather outsource to keep the cost down, which will benefit less progressive countries.
