Sony Released Tablet S in Japan

Sony Corporation began selling its first tablet computer on Saturday in Japan with the aim of becoming the leader in Android-based tablets and chasing Apple Inc., maker of the popular iPad 2, in the broader tablet market.

The price for the wi-fi capable Sony Tablet “S” series with a 9.4-inch display on the Android 3.1 platform is around 45,000 yen for a model with a 16-gigabyte data storage, and 53,000 yen for the 32-gigabyte version.

Masayuki Kamata, a 28-year-old company employee from Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward, bought the first unit sold at the Ikebukuro outlet in Tokyo of electrics retail chain Bic Camera Inc., after waiting since 6:30 a.m. for the store to open.
