In line with its proactive efforts to encourage the youth to promote Original Pilipino Music and to become future local music artists, Sun Cellular launches a new breed of young music professionals through the recent culmination of the “Sun Broadband Quest” Battle of the Bands Finals at the Music Museum.
Iktus Band Grand Winner at 2013 Sun Broadband Quest
Starting with over a hundred hopefuls from different parts of the country, the competition for the finals was down to 10 college student bands from different universities in the Philippines. Sun Broadband also enhanced the musical skills of these young talents by exposing them to extensive training / workshops with local local music industry greats like Nyoy Volante, Ebe Dancel, Francis Reyes, Mally Paraguya, Eunece Jorge and Mike Dizon.
The top 10 finalists are: BABY BOOMERS; BAD HAIR DAY; CROWD 7; DAGSIN; IKTUS; J-SQUAD; JACK N POY; LOW GRAD REPEAT; MARIAé; SOULPAGE.
Baby Boomers bagged the second runner up price while the all girl rock band Bad Hair Day got the first runner up price.
Iktus band from Christian International School was declared the overall winner with P150,000 cash prize, an album produced and released by MCA Universal, own music video, and paid gigs at Sun and MCA Universal-sponsored events.
Iktus was originally “Icthus” which was the Greek word for “fish” mainly because the fish ius a symbol of Christianity. The band finds inspiration in both local and foreign bands like Rivermaya, Silent Sanctuary, Sugarfree, Itchyworms, Urbandub, Flyleaf, Paramore, Switchfoot and Run Kid Run.
